Dr. Stroka gives invited talk at Biophysical Society Meeting's "Future of Biophysics" Symposium2/29/2016
This morning Dr. Stroka presented an invited talk at the "Future of Biophysics" Symposium at the annual meeting of the Biophysical Society Meeting in Los Angeles, CA. The talk, titled "Engineering biomimetic matrices to understand brain/tumor interactions during metastasis" highlighted Dr. Stroka's past work, as well as the lab's current work in understanding breast tumor cell migration, extravasation, and interactions with the blood-brain barrier.
Picture below: Dr. Stroka in LA! Congratulations to undergraduate researcher Erica Brown who was recently awarded an ASPIRE Fellowship for her Spring 2016 semester research! This award is based on a proposal that Erica wrote to characterize collagen coating on hydrogels and subsequently evaluate human brain microvascular endothelial cell focal adhesion to the collagen as a function of hydrogel stiffness. Her project fits into the context of our larger lab goal of engineering a "blood-brain barrier-on-a-chip." Great job, Erica!
